Colours of the Cooks: There are few places I've been that are as colourful as the Cook Islands. Or as laid-back. The primary colour here is blue; but there is every shade of it, from the dazzling azure of the lagoons to the deep thunderous shade that might herald an afternoon shower. Then there's the sky, that often meets the sea. It's never the colour of the mood, though, as Cook Islanders offer an ever-cheerful face and a warm welcome to the smattering of tourists who make it here.

Aitutaki Idyll: I am cruising across the Aitutaki lagoon, reputedly one of the world's most spectacular. At the helm is Captain Peaches, ably assisted by Captain Awesome, and we are bound for One Foot Island. On the way, we stop to snorkel from a vast sandbank, a dazzling white beach looming out of the aqua lagoon. It promises to be a very relaxed day out.

A moveable feast in Rarotonga: Danny Kelly leads us around his extensive garden, pointing out the various tropical plants he is nurturing. Back at the house, his wife Jayne, is getting dinner ready. It's the first course in a progressive dinner which will visit three Rarotongan homes, as the locals welcome visitors into their lives and introduce us to their culture. For dinner with a difference, book early so you don't miss out.
