Smiles of the Solomons: Tourism is a relative newcomer to the Solomon Islands - and that's a bonus, as far as I'm concerned. The smiles are genuine, the kids clamber unself-consciously to see their photos, and the people are keen to share their rich and diverse culture. It's hard to believe that some of them are only two generations removed from fierce head-hunters. Story by Lee Mylne
Music of the Solomons: It may sound trite, but the ubiquitous song and dance welcome at villages in the Solomons is anything but. Bob Marley has a lot to answer for, as traditional styles are mixed with more upbeat welcomes on the islands of Upei, Ngella and Santa Ana. Some of the up-and-coming village musicians are even working on their own CD.

Marvellous Marovo: The writer James A. Mitchener once described the Marovo Lagoon as the eighth wonder of the world. Sadly, logging has decimated some of the surrounding islands' beauty and robbed the area of proposed World Heritage status, but the lagoon still offers snorkellers and divers a wonderful experience.
